Quality
Assurance Framework for Teaching and Learning
The
Head of School plays the leadership role of providing direction
and energy through the effective allocation of resources to the
teaching and learning function. In particular, the quality of our
teaching programmes and student learning matters is closely monitored
by administering the Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ) at the
end of each semester. For developmental purposes, staff may conduct
their own SFQ during the semester or request for peer review on
a voluntary basis. This quality development process is also supplemented
by other School initiatives -- developing full IT-based teaching
and learning, reviewing programme curricula on a continuous basis,
and establishing strong links with our stakeholders in Hong Kong
and in mainland China.
Funded
by a Learning and Teaching Grant of the University, we have made
substantial investments in equipment and computer software to facilitate
the full application of IT-based teaching. In 1997, our School pioneered
in Hong Kong the use of the teaching platform "LearningSpace"
to teach all our accounting subjects. Conforming to the University's
adoption of WebCT, the School has now evolved into using this new
platform to teach most subjects. Currently, on-going initiatives
include a pilot project to develop on-line programme courses for
junior-level undergraduate accounting-related courses and the availability
of funds to support relevant teaching and learning activities. Staff
members are strongly encouraged to attend related teaching and learning
seminars either locally or overseas where appropriate. The School
also invites overseas professors to share their experiences and
conduct seminars in using web-based technologies to support teaching,
learning and research activities to enhance the knowledge of our
staff members. Links to related teaching and learning resource websites
are identified in the School Homepage for staff members and students.
